В жизни актер успешный бизнесмен и инвестор, на счёту которого более шести тысяч спасённых жизней. Будучи женатым на актрисе Деми Мур, они вместе открыли организацию «Thorn: Digital Defenders Children», которая ведёт жестокую борьбу с сексуальным насилием над детьми.

Актёр рассказал журналистам, что в наше время детьми торгуют, как товаром. Идея для открытия такой организации возникла у актёров ещё в 2009 году, когда они увидели фильм, как в Камбодже продают детей в сексуальное рабство. Благодаря финансовой поддержке Мур и Катчера была создана компьютерная программа, которая отслеживала запросы о детской порнографии. Эта программа помогла американской и канадской полиции изловить более четырёх тысяч преступников, которые в Интернете делали такие запросы.

Катчер был приглашён на заседании Сената США, в котором говорилось о насилии над детьми. В своей речи актёр поведал о том, как лично принимал участие в поимке педофилов с федеральной службой расследований. Он рассказал на заседании, что видел такое, что не даёт ему и сегодня спокойно спать по ночам.

При помощи благотворительной организации идёт поиск в сетях Интернета материалов, в которых детей принуждают принимать участие в военных конфликтах. Их ищут и возвращают к мирной жизни.
